If I was an Alchemist

This week I’m giving away and advanced reading copy of Bloodlines by Richelle Mead, which will come out this August. In this book, a family of alchemists takes on challenges that I would mention but it will give away a good story.

That got me thinking about what I would do if I was an alchemist. Originally the idea was to spin straw into gold. But a few hundred years have passed and no one has done that yet. Also, all my jewelry is platinum. If I suddenly added gold it would look weird.

That got me thinking about what I would like to convert into something else. Staying on the clothing angle, I thought that spinning spaghetti into jewel-encrusted tiaras would be a neat trick. That would be great for the next time I host my publishing friends. “Just a minute girls...” Then, voila, we’re all princesses!

I also thought my form of magic could make a few things I loathe into things I like. For example, I hate loafers with tassels. I would like to be able to turn them into bunny rabbits. I also don’t like acid wash jeans. Maybe I could make those into kitchen appliances I’ve always wanted. Then there’s my least favorite creature: cockroaches. They would be so much more likable as chocolate chip cookies.

What would you do? Put it in the comments below and you could win the copy of Bloodlines!

  1. I would convert all the crap music into actual candy so that way people would maybe throw away all the "wrappers" :)

Or I would convert non recyclable trash into cute, nonsmelly clothing. It would help the Earth and the people living on it.

  2. I agree with you completely on turning cockroaches in to chocolate chip cookies, except I'm not sure how they'd taste :)

Anyhow, I'd turn mushrooms into beautiful flowers because I hate mushrooms. I'd convert broccoli into apples. I'd also convert my old, ratty cloths to cute puppies.

I love the Vampire Academy Series--it's one of my favorites--and would love to win a copy of 'Bloodlines'!

  4. I love your idea of turning spaghetti into tiaras. I would probably make fire into an everburning flame or my old chevy into a porsche

  5. I would convert an old shirt into a fun black dress, or my desk chair into a hammock so I could read in comfort. ;)

I like the idea of converting non-recyclable material (styrofoam, etc) into recyclable material so that we don't waste as much!

  8. Fun! Those books sound fabulous! I wish I had the magic touch for chocolate by that I could turn it on and off. Then there's those awful strings on the bananas? Annoying! So those would have to turn into Twizzlers. Sigh. That would be pure bliss.

  9. i would convert all sad or depressing thoughts that cross my mind into hilarious knock knock jokes told by an inner voice that sounded like paul lynde and with a corresponding laugh track made up of snoopy laughs.

there's no stopping me from there but my next project would be to convert mondays into thursdays, tuesdays into fridays and wednesdays into saturdays (thursdays, fridays, saturdays and sundays would remain unchanged)...
